Participant 1

Female Age 29 Occupation: Software Engineer

Summary Participant has car and health insurance. Participant considered getting (pet) insurance out of fear in case an out-of-the-blue accident does occur, but she did not go through with it since it is a monthly cost that won’t get used until much later. She did regret not getting insurance since her vet bills were large. She also has renter’s insurance out of obligation (by law) but doesn’t see the point of it (although cheap). When it comes to searching for insurance, she likes using third-party tools (or matchmakers) of side-by-side comparison costs. She is not comfortable giving personal information for a simple search of insurance (such as email), knowing she will be used for marketing. She has mixed feelings when it comes to insurance companies, (“They are out there to scoop out your money.”), while also being aware that you need insurance as a safety precaution. Insights

Participant 2

Male Age 31 Occupation: Product Designer

Summary Participant has car and health insurance. He considered getting pet and renters insurance but keeps putting it off because it is too time-consuming. He wants a simple, quick, and affordable solution. When getting car insurance, was a very time-consuming process – he felt frustrated during and after the process. He also felt fear because its financially related and didn’t want to mess up in choosing a policy plan. When selecting health insurance, he was also frustrated. The process was long and confusing. The UI was horrible and the logistics of connecting an account was long. He doesn’t know what he was getting himself into (“It’s almost as if they are trying to make you confused”). His overall sentiment of an insurance company is “very old fashioned and from a different time, they don’t have the customer in mind”. He prioritizes costs when it comes to searching for insurance. He also wants to limit putting intrusive information when looking for a quote. Insights
