Typography establishes the structure and communicates important content by creating easy and clear patterns for users.
A few things to keep note of when selecting type are:
- Legibility: The typeface should be easy to read (scannable) at various sizes and on different devices and screen resolutions.
- Branding: The typeface should align with your brand personality and reinforce your brand identity.
- Tone: The typeface should convey the appropriate tone for your brand and the type of content it will be used for.
- Accessibility: The typeface should be accessible, with good contrast and clear letter shapes, to ensure it can be read by a wide range of users, including those with visual impairments.
- Versatility: The typeface should be flexible, have multiple weights, and be versatile enough to be used in a variety of contexts, such as headings, body copy, and navigation.
- File format: The typeface should be available in the necessary file formats for web and print use, such as .otf or .ttf for desktop use, and .woff or .woff2 for web use.
- Performance: The typeface should be optimized for fast loading and rendering, particularly on the web.
- System compatibility: The typeface should be compatible with the systems and platforms it will be used on, including both desktop and mobile devices.
I have also created global and alias tokens for GoFundMe’s typography.
