<aside> 💡 New ways of working only happen through practice and experimentation in your teams. There is no shortcut, no manual, no roadmap, and no one size fits all approach to copy and paste. Cease to experiment and your new ways of working journey ends.

Remember to keep them small, safe to try, and time-bound. Below are a few examples from my NWOW course. Go try a few things, do more of what works, and less of what doesn’t. Good luck!

Feedback

  1. Appreciative and Constructive Feedback Practice: Every Friday for the next month, I'll provide one appreciative and one constructive feedback to colleagues using the Situation, Behaviour, Impact (SBI) model, starting this week.
  2. Brain-Friendly Feedback Session: In two weeks' time during our team meeting, we will watch a brief instructional video on 'brain-friendly feedback' and discuss its implementation in our daily interactions.
  3. Feedback Request Routine: Starting next Monday, I'll request specific feedback from a different team member each week, focusing on my personal development areas.

Effective Meetings

  1. Check-In Routine for Meetings: For the next four team meetings, we will start with a 5-minute safety check-in, beginning with our meeting next Tuesday.
  2. Lean Coffee for Meeting Agendas: In our next team brainstorming session, we'll use the Lean Coffee format to democratically decide and discuss the meeting agenda.
  3. Circle Meeting for Distributed Dialogue: At our next monthly strategic meeting, we'll trial a circle meeting format to ensure equal participation.

Distributed Decision-Making

  1. Advice Process Trial: Over our next three project meetings, we will experiment with the advice process for key decision-making, starting from the upcoming meeting.
  2. Consent-Based Decision-Making in Policy Review: For our upcoming policy review session in two weeks, we will use consent-based decision-making.
  3. Collaboration Software Exploration: For our next remote workshop, we'll experiment with Butter.us for its Miro integration and participatory features, scheduled for next Thursday.

Role and Responsibility Clarity

  1. Clarifying Roles Workshop: In three weeks, we'll hold a workshop to clearly define and discuss each team member's roles and responsibilities.
  2. Responsibility Clarification Discussion: In our next team meeting, we will have an open discussion to clarify and confirm everyone's current roles and responsibilities.
  3. Responsibility Feedback Loop: Starting next month, we'll have a monthly check-in during our team meetings to ensure clarity and alignment on roles and responsibilities.

Working/Team Agreements

  1. Developing Team Agreements: Half of our next team meeting will be dedicated to developing a set of team working agreements.
  2. Retrospective on New Methods: After implementing new methods like Lean Coffee, we'll have a retrospective in our subsequent meeting to assess their effectiveness.
