Since this tool is a communication tool for communities and teams, I compared a few competitors.
Communication Tools
My competitive analyses findings include:
- None of the communication tools had a structured way of async video threaded messaging.
- Video dedicated tools such as Zoom and Loom had limited features (such as Looms limited minutes and Zooms synchronous only collaboration).
- Messaging tools such as Discord, Whatsapp, and Discord lacked video features (such as Discord and Slack not being able to record videos and Whatsapp lacking structure in messaging).
This motivated me to:
- Focus on using interviews to learn about how users would share asynchronous videos.
- Use the interviews to help drive the design and architecture of a mobile-based async video application.
- Build a mobile application that is simple to use for sharing and collaborating in a video-like manner.
